I know that there will be some disappointment at the 1st XV result against Bournemouth RFC last week, not least because it ended our fine unbeaten home record for this season, but there is still all to play for. Both Hartpury College and ourselves have to travel to Bournemouth, whilst Hartpury have yet to come to Everest Road.
Much may therefore happen before the season is completed but our focus must firmly be to reverse the result of our fixture against Oxford Harlequins in October when they recorded a 35 - 22 victory. Currently in 8th place in National League 3 South West Oxford beat Barnstaple 64 - 5 last weekend and before that had a 17 - 3 victory against Newton Abbot. In Jeffrey Stewart they have the leading kicker in the league with 127 points to his name, whist Martin Nutt and Xavier Andre have both scored eight tries each.
Last week saw the continuation of the bad luck we are suffering injuries when captain Adam Seager dislocated his shoulder. Adam will be out of action for several weeks and we wish him a speedy recovery. On the positive side James Stickland and Leroy Hughes are both fit again and in contention for places today.
The Golesworthy Day is on 12 March for the game against Barnstaple. As ever this is a very popular event and tickets are selling fast so please contact Keith East on keithgeast@hotmail.co.uk to reserve your place for what is always a most enjoyable lunch.
An apology is due in the last week's programme notes failed to mention Mark Peacey when thanking those who help with the Colts It has been good to see a loyal clubman like Mark back in 1st XV action, following a long spell out injured, especially when coming off the bench against Newton Abbot and the Old Pats immediately taking a scrum against the head!
