PATS PATTER 1st XV .v. Old Redcliffians 28/01/12

Old Redcliffians (Old Reds) RFC from Bristol are our visitors to Everest Road today and we extend a warm welcome to their Committee, players and supporters.

Last week Old Reds travelled to table topping Bournemouth RFC where they suffered a 35-12 reversal. No doubt Old Reds will be keen to try and return to winning ways today and a tight match can therefore be expected. In the reverse fixture earlier in the season Old Reds inflicted a 40-29 defeat on the Old Pats and no doubt there will be a determination to turn the tables. Old Reds currently lie 11th in National League 3 South West.

Our match against Chinnor showed a determined Pats performance and some control and well executed forward play, particularly in the 2nd half going up the slope. However, Chinnor are an accomplished team and were able to leave Everest Road with a victory. A positive aspect of last week’s game was the return from injury of Nathan Riley, whilst James Stickland was continuing his recovery with a match for the second 2nd XV.

Many of you will have noticed that the Honours Board in the Clubhouse has now been updated. Many thanks to Neil Hyde, who not only arranged for this work to be done, but also kindly paid the bill. This is a typical gesture from a real Old Pats stalwart so on behalf of us all can I express our thanks to Neil for this kind gesture and also all that he does throughout the year.

Please note that, subject to appeal, the abandoned match against Readingensians RFC is due to be replayed at Everest Road on Saturday, 25 February, 2:00pm kick-off. Further details will be given on the website, which is www.oldpats.co.uk

Our referee today is Dan Shaw, who is on exchange from Scotland, and we welcome him to Everest Road and trust he will enjoy his day.
