JUNIOR TEAM

Old Patesians RFC Junior Academy.
A note from the Chairman – Season 2009/2010.

It remains an incredibly exciting and successful time on and off the pitch at Old Pats Junior Rugby Academy.

Last season saw Ben Glynn became the first Old Pats Junior to be capped and play for England U18. All of our teams quitted themselves well in all of the County Cup and festivals matches with many noteable results. Last season also saw the number of players  playing increase from the previous year, we also saw the introduction of an under 9 age group and a full Colts team. The number of coaches increased from the previous year with several of the current first team  players giving of their time to support to the junior teams. The ratio of 1 coach to 10 players is maintained.

The club still operates under the best practice laid down by the RFU’s Seal of Approval. All coaches have had CRB certificated approval, and have attended Child protection and first Aid course, alongside ruby training courses. The club operates and maintains a inclusive, family ethos. All players are given equal opportunity and  teams are not selected as the best players first only policy.

The club draws players from all over Cheltenham and local area and includes pupils from all over the main schools, such as Balcarras, Bournside, Pates Grammar, St Edwards and Cheltenham College. Everyone involved with the Academy is particular grateful of the continued support provided by Cheltenham College. Allowing the Club to use the College pitches and facilities has been a key factor in delivering the benefits of rugby to the local community.

Whats new for season 2009/10.

  1. This website for instance is new!!! Use of the website as a means of communication will become more important in future years.
  2. A brand new range of kit will be on offer during the season from the shop.
  3. The Colts and under 16’s team will have a new sponsored playing strip.
  4. Subscription costs have been held at the same price as last season, at £50.
  5. More first team players assisting with the coaching.

I would like to thank the players/parents/sponsors for their continued support, and an even bigger thanks to the coaches and other helpers, who give of their time for free in ensuring we maintain one of the most thriving junior rugby clubs in the county.

We are always looking for volunteers and people prepared to sponsor the teams, from as little as £100, if you are interested please contact me.
