The masses that gathered at the Park Campus were treated to a fantastic display of rugby, in perfect sunny and muddy conditions
The Old Patesian’s RFC U11s is made up of just over 50 active players divided into three mixed ability squads. Our Head Coach, Richard Simpson (a level 2 RFU coach), along with 9 other volunteer coaches have worked with the majority of the players since they started in the U9’s. Our coaching team, along with the support of Team Manager James Speller, aim to provide interesting and challenging training sessions that are designed to maximise the potential of each and every player whilst still having fun and learning the importance of teamwork. As an age group we aim to play a fast paced game, where support play, offloads and agility are essential skills.
Each of the three squads has its own identity (Viking’s, Spartan’s or Barbarian’s) and its own team of coaches to guide them through fixtures. We hope this helps build a sense of identity and belonging, as well as a little friendly rivalry between the squads. However, on training weekends all three squads train together at the Park Campus (University of Gloucestershire, Cheltenham) in order to ensure the players understand they all represent Old Patesian’s RFC. At the end of each season we reorganise the squads to facilitate new friendships (and to ensure the squads remain equally competitive).
New players are always very welcome!
