The summer ball to beat them all
164 guests enjoyed the best Old Pats ball ever.
Old Pats U12’s has over forty boys from local schools. Our home/ training ground is Reeves Field (Cheltenham College) where we meet on a Sunday morning at 10am for training or matches.
We have 8 coaches, led by our Head Coach, Ross Freebury. Whilst the coaching team are focused on developing our players, we also emphasise the fun element, getting together with friends and having a great time.
Our players are currently split into 3 mixed ability squads for matches, whereas we train as a whole group, with Ross providing appropriate, challenging and fun training sessions. These sessions build on the basics learnt so far and aim to ensure that each player achieves their potential.
The Old Patesians Junior section exists to encourage children and young adults to develop as rugby and team players throughout their time with us.
Our aim is that they maintain their participation in the sport throughout their junior years and progress to our senior section. To this end, the rugby environment we create for our young players must be safe, fun and inclusive. We welcome players of all standards, irrespective of ability or experience.
Our Club Ethos, based around the RFU core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship (TREDS), is at the very heart of everything we think and do to make this happen.
We hope the 2021/22 season brings some normality and we can get back to playing some challenging and competitive fixtures.
We have plenty of fixtures already planned and anticipate a busy and productive season, where our players can put into practice what they have learnt at training.
And in addition, encourage them to maintain a positive attitude and a great teamwork ethic.
We also are hopeful of finally going on tour towards the end of the season. We have been unable to do this for the last two seasons and recognise the enjoyment and positive team building for players, coaches and parents, that this can bring.
We are very much looking forward to the 2021/22 season. We can’t wait to see the players play competitively again, continue to build on their skills and build supportive and fun relationships with each other.
The focus is on the RFU’s TREDS values and ensuring, with our mixed ability squads, that all players achieve their potential, understand the importance of teamwork, whilst at the same time, having a great time with their friends.
Support from parents is welcomed. This doesn’t have to just be on the touchline (though we encourage this!) but if anyone can lend a hand with coaching, match reports, photography or cooking the occasional hotdog, let us know!
Head coach, Ross leads our coaching team, and is ably supported by Rob M. Most of our coaching team have been with the group since we started at U9s, some being keen supporters even before this when our age group was still playing tag. We have a spread of training across the group that includes RFU rugby coaching qualifications, CPD, first aid and “play it safe”.
Our aim being to develop our players whilst ensuring their welfare and safety. Team manager, Andrea, attempts to keep everyone in order and, most importantly, makes sure that there are enough hot dogs at the end of a match.
