The summer ball to beat them all
164 guests enjoyed the best Old Pats ball ever.
Welcome to Old Pats under 13’s we run a mixed ability squad of around 40 players and coached by our team of coaches. We play our home fixtures at Reeves Field, Cheltenham GL53 7FF from 10:00 until 12:00 on a Sunday morning.
Since we came together as an age group at under 9’s the squad has formed a very strong bond with great friendships formed across the squad both with players and coaches. We currently run 3 teams with players of all ability’s and we will welcome new players to our squad, if you would like to join please email the contact details below:
During a normal season we play over 50 competitive matches against clubs across Gloucestershire and sometimes further afield such as when we go on tour.
The Old Patesians Junior section exists to encourage children and young adults to develop as rugby and team players throughout their time with us.
Our aim is that they maintain their participation in the sport throughout their junior years and progress to our senior section. To this end, the rugby environment we create for our young players must be safe, fun and inclusive. We welcome players of all standards, irrespective of ability or experience.
Our Club Ethos, based around the RFU core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship (TREDS), is at the very heart of everything we think and do to make this happen.
Last season brought many challenges to the whole of the world and Old Pats junior rugby was no different with lockdown’s and COVID regulations. Despite all the challenges we trained when able and worked heavily on skills training and fitness training. We even managed a couple of matches within strict Covid regulations towards the end of season.
Hopefully next season we shall see a return to a normal structure of training and matches across the season, currently we have matches in the diary for most weekends with training mixed in to concentrate on growing skills.
The rules change only slightly from u12’s to u13’s with flyhack kicks and 6 players in the scrum if they are allowed in next seasons regulations.
Over the last 4 years we have been especially proud of our squad and how they have developed both as players and young people forming a strong culture of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship – its very true in our case that rugby’s greatest asset is said to be the culture it creates inspiring a lifelong bond between children, adults and rugby
There is a very strong ethos attached to Old Patesians Junior Club which exists to encourage children to develop as rugby and team players throughout their time with us with the objective that maintain their participation in the sport once they become an adult.
Success is measured by the number of children who continue to play in adulthood irrespective of the club or the standard they play at.
Playing success and trophies are a by-product of this objective not the objective itself.
We recognise and respect that children develop at different rated and that success means different things to all children. It is our role to support all children whatever their standard to ensure they enjoy rugby and reach their potential.
