The summer ball to beat them all
164 guests enjoyed the best Old Pats ball ever.
The Old Pats U16’s is made up of over fifty active players divided into two mixed ability squads. Our Head Coach, David Jones, who has worked with the majority of the players since they were U9’s, oversees both squads providing interesting and challenging training sessions that are designed to maximise the potential of each and every player.
Each squad has a team of coaches who are dedicated to the development of all our players under the guidance of David.
The squads train and play their home matches at Bourneside School, Bourneside Road, Cheltenham. Other home matches will be played at Everest Road. Training is generally between 10.30 and midday every Sunday, unless we have matches when the times may vary. All training and match day information is communicated to parents and carers via our Teamo management app.
The Old Patesians Junior section exists to encourage children and young adults to develop as rugby and team players throughout their time with us.
Our aim is that they maintain their participation in the sport throughout their junior years and progress to our senior section. To this end, the rugby environment we create for our young players must be safe, fun and inclusive. We welcome players of all standards, irrespective of ability or experience.
Our Club Ethos, based around the RFU core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship (TREDS), is at the very heart of everything we think and do to make this happen.
We are looking forward to the 2021-22 season, which will be our final one before the players move on to the Colts in 2022-23.
We have a very busy training and fixture schedule that starts in September and concludes in May 2022. This will see us play both home and away fixtures against most of the local teams in Gloucestershire and a few beyond our County. We always look for a positive attitude from all our players that includes their commitment to fellow players and the club.
This is our final season before we migrate the boys to the Colts Squad, which will have a slightly different structure that fits with the players as they mature both as players and into young adults. All the coaching staff are relishing the new season ahead and looking forward to watching every player’s progress and ongoing development.
We are all looking forward to a busy 2021/22 season following the disruptions caused by COVID 19 in 2020/21. We have a squad of over fifty players and divide them into two flexible teams. The 2021/22 season will see all our players involved with their continuing development based around the RFU’s TREDS values. We are conscious of the amount of rugby that some of our players will be involved with and this will be closely managed to balance playing time and recovery time.

The majority of the coaches have been with the squad since since its debut at U9 back in 2014. Many had become acquainted in the bacon sandwich queue at Tag run by Chris Raymond.
All coaches have participated in most, if not all, of the squad’s tours that’s seen us compete against teams at South Moulton, Tiverton, Beaconsfield and Richmond where we played Quins and London Scottish in the Legends Tour. Like the players, our coaches have forged long-lasting friendships so don’t be at all surprised to see some of us still doing the BBQ at the 2030 Club Day!
Once we arrived in Croyde, all 72 of us went to the beach for a fish & chip lunch
A fitting finale for Old Pats 2021-22 U16s
