Old Pats First XV v Norton RFC
Old Pats 45 - Norton 5
Pats young 1st XV leapfrogged to the top of the table running in seven tries to one in a comprehensive victory at Everest Road.
Playing down the slope the home side were off to a flying start when a well-executed line out drive found in form George Warley in space to open the score with a try converted by Sam Rhymes after just 2 minutes of play.
Pats were dominant in all areas and when Archie Long stole line out ball he strolled over uncontested for Pats second. With their forwards controlling possession Pats pacey threequarters enjoyed good possession and were rampant with excellent handling, sweeping the ball from left to right with Warley showing well and when Rhymes received a perfectly timed pass from Louie Vincent he dabbed down between the posts and converted his own try.
Powerful James Macintosh crashed over for the bonus point try after Pats won a scum against the head and an excellent Warley break from deep saw Louie Nicholson collect from Mackintosh for a fine try taking the game out of sight as half time beckoned.
With the second half barely underway Warley helped himself to his brace after a superb interchange between forwards and backs produced the best try of the match converted by Rhymes.
The visitors claimed a consolation try in the corner when Pats lost concentration but with the Everest Road men dominating the set pieces and always first to the breakdown they looked like scoring from everywhere.
A succession of 5 metre scrums saw veteran utility forward Phil Sylvester pick up from the base of the scrum for Pats seventh try. Pats entertain Bredon Star next weekend when they will look to build on their rich run of form
