James Hutchison – New Junior Chairman
Message from new Junior Chairman James Hutchison
This is the Under 16’s! We have 3 very experienced coaching staff with a Level 3 Coach (Jonesy), a giant Welshman who is a legendary Clubman (Gethin) and a Gloucester player Dave Parry who’s head coach.
We uphold the RFU’s TREDS values and the club ethos of mixed ability and equal opportunity for every single player. We will develop each player’s rugby skills at a pace to suit them, regardless of experience or ability.
We have approximately 30 loyal players making up one mixed-ability squad playing and training at the home of the Old Pats, Everest Road. Training begins at 10.30 am and finishes at 12 pm every Sunday morning.
We have a full fixtures calendar with enjoyment and development at the heart, as per our ethos, building on the boys’ skills whilst creating and maintaining supportive, fun relationships with each other.

Our Club Ethos, based around the RFU core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship (TREDS), is at the very heart of everything we do.
We are committed to developing the confidence and self-belief of every player from the U9’s to the Seniors by providing them with the opportunities, encouragement and support they need to enjoy their rugby to the full and fulfil their potential as a player and a teammate.
To this end, the rugby environment we create for our young players, irrespective of ability or experience must be safe, fun, and inclusive.
During the development of each age-group there are many competing pressures that result in junior players leaving the club, including clashes with Gloucester DPP, school fixtures and an increased academic workload. Experience demonstrates that selective squads further increase attrition as less able players feel marginalised and demotivated leading to reduced playing numbers below the critical mass required to field a successful team, especially in the older age groups.
Old Pats is committed to mixed ability sides offering equal opportunity for all as players develop skills at different ages. Investing in all our players, rather than a select few results in players, parents, teams, and the club as a whole reaping the benefit in the longer term.
Friday evening saw the Colts, winners of the Gloucestershire League (North) take on Lydney, the Southern champions for the honour of being crowned best U18 team in the County.
Having triumphed in the League playoff final on Friday evening, the Colts ran out for a rearranged friendly fixture at Bradford on Avon this Sunday.
U12s home from a very successful tour to Herefordshire
As part of the integration of next year’s Colts side, we forged a hybrid U16/17 team to take on a similarly formed Stow side.
