2023-4 U12s Tour to Herefordhsire
Home from a very successful tour last weekend, everybody had a great time and we played some good rugby.
The Old Pats Under 12s enjoyed a wonderful tour last weekend, with no fewer than 80 people booked onto the trip to Hereford.
Staying at Oaker Wood, the players took part in team-building challenges on Saturday morning – apparently the backs beat the forwards somehow – and then an afternoon of paint-balling, where some took a little too much pleasure in blasting their coaches and parents with paint.
Saturday evening was spent around the campfire with BBQ food, some player awards and reflections on the season, followed by a light-hearted kangaroo court.
Energy reserves were running low by Sunday, not least amongst the dads, but the players roused themselves to take part in the excellent Luctonians Festival. There were 12 teams at the U12 level, of which 3 were the Old Pats, and we certainly made an impact with so many enthusiastic players.
It was also great to take on other clubs that we have not faced before, and the season ended in dramatic fashion. The ‘final’ was closely contested with the Old Pats defending for most of the game, but then a sweeping move featuring at least 10 phases saw them travel from one end of the pitch to the other before crashing over for a try.
The players celebrated and the parents looked on proudly at the determination and character shown, and at the digging deep all afternoon after not nearly enough sleep. The boys should be incredibly proud of everything they have achieved this season, as they continue to develop as players and as young men.
