Weathering the Storm
The Colts withstood another weekend battering by the weather and a talented Cirencester outfit, this time emerging victorious with a bonus point to boot.
Welcome to Old Pats, where young rugby players begin their journey. After a terrific first season together in the U9s, we are raring to go for another season. We are delighted to welcome all returning and aspiring players to the Old Pats community, where the focus is on developing a love for the game through teamwork, enjoyment, and respect.
At Old Pats, we aim to help each child grow both on and off the field, supported by volunteer coaches and managers. Every practice and match is an opportunity for personal development, new friendships, and building rugby skills that will last a lifetime We look forward to a rewarding and enjoyable season.
We run the ages group as a single squad, training together each Sunday at 9.30am at The Park play fields in Cheltenham. On match days, we split into different, mixed ability, teams to play against local clubs both home and away (match times may vary).
All training and match day information is communicated to parents and carers via our Teamo management app. This season, as a change to last, we will also share training and match details by a new WhatsApp community (rather than email, as last season).
The management and coaching team is made up of volunteers drawn from the parents of the age group, and headed up by Head Coach Dave Evans and Team Manager, James Bradford.
We will start the season with six coaches and a number of other parent volunteers. The coaches are in the process of developing their RFU coaching credentials and, amongst the coaches and other volunteers, we have first aid and child / player safeguarding trained individuals. Help is often needed and always welcome. If you would like to get involved, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
The coaches lead the children through their development with the key focus being on fun, safety and teamwork.
All coaches are dedicated to the welfare of the players and committed to inclusive rugby to develop them both as players and individuals, and we are very grateful to the hard work and commitment of our coaching team so please give them as much support as you can.
Our Club Ethos, based around the RFU core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship (TREDS), is at the very heart of everything we do.
We are committed to developing the confidence and self-belief of every player from the U9’s to the Seniors by providing them with the opportunities, encouragement and support they need to enjoy their rugby to the full and fulfil their potential as a player and a teammate.
To this end, the rugby environment we create for our young players, irrespective of ability or experience must be safe, fun, and inclusive.
Old Pats is committed to mixed ability sides offering equal opportunity for all as players develop skills at different ages. Investing in all our players, rather than a select few, results in players, parents, teams, and the club as a whole benefiting in the long term.
