Old Pats player breaks leg in league game! We would like to help him pay his bills while he can’t work

On Saturday 2nd September Charlie Maker led the team out as Captain in the first Old Pats League game of the season away to Gordon League. Charlie is in his 3rd season of Senior Rugby and has established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet and represented Gloucestershire under 20’s last season.

Sadly he suffered a double lower leg fracture in a freak rugby incident and we would like to do our bit to help him keep up his bills while he is unable to work!

Charlie is 2 years into an Apprenticeship and his role requires him to be able to climb Communication Masts which with a full leg plaster on his right leg won’t be possible for a number of months.

His mates in the squad asked if we could set up a fund so they can contribute towards his costs – they want to look after their own! Maybe some of our supporters would like to help and hence we have set up this page. Every penny would I am sure be appreciated – can you help us look after Charlie?

Matt Cape

”Charlie is everything you could want in a player, loyal, committed, passionate and inspirational. He and his family are an integral part of what makes the Old Pats a success and he has been at the heart of our mission to drive the club forward. It’s devastating for us all, not just him, that he suffered such a freak injury in the first game of the season.

He deserves our support and one practical way we can help while he recovers from this injury is to raise some money to help with bills while he can’t work – I know with 100% certainty he would do the same for any of the other players!”

Matt Cape – Club Chairman

Mike Milburn

”Charlie is one of Old Pats brightest rugby prospects and, despite his tender years, leads the team as captain with maturity, innovation, and intelligence. This nasty injury will merely delay his rise to greater things as a rugby player and, prayerfully, I wish him well for a speedy and full recover”

Mike Milburn – Club Chaplain

Alistair Armstrong Old Pats Junior Chairman

”On behalf of the Juniors we wish Charlie a speedy recovery and return to the game and club he loves. Charlie made a huge contribution to the successes of the Old Pats last season and deserves all the support he can get”

Alistair Armstrong – Junior Chairman

Edward Kusznierski

”It was devastating to hear of Charlie’s injury not only as an Old Pat sponsor but as a friend of the family for many years. I know Charlie will bounce back as quickly as possible and we look forward to a fantastic No 8 returning to the team as soon as possible.”

Nick Lewis Safeguarding Officer

“I’ve seen Charlie progress from Colts to Senior rugby with aplomb. He’s played in most positions equally well, from prop, to lock, to No.8, to centre. I’ve no doubt he’d excel as a scrum half given the chance. Charlie is a Clubman through & through, a committed player, well respected by the squad and he’s important to Pats on & off the pitch. This injury will test Charlie’s resolve, but I know with the support of his Family and the Old Pats Rugby Club he’ll come back stronger”.
