Mark and the Old Pats

My first association with the Old Pats was in 1987 when my family moved to Cheltenham playing Colts rugby with my brother and I have been a member ever since!

I had a brief period of absence from playing due to work but always gravitated to Everest Road on a Saturday afternoon to watch and enjoy the occasional ale making many friends both on and off the pitch. With work commitments hampering my playing ambitions, plus my ability or lack of, I only ever made it to the dizzy heights of the 2nds for a couple of seasons, playing fly half, centre, back row and mostly second row the position I ended up playing most of my rugby apparently down to my height, weight and occasional ability to catch!

I have also been involved in coaching my son and his mates, with a group of Dad’s who played together, from under 9’s to colts. It is fantastic to see many of them now involved with the First and Second Teams. A thoroughly enjoyable journey with a great group of coaches and lads.

My focus now is to get a social team out every couple of weeks with the emphasis on camaraderie, enjoyment and love for rugby plus a few well earned beers in the clubhouse afterwards!
