I first heard of Old Pats whilst studying and playing at University of Gloucestershire in 2013 when Chris Downes joined us as a coach and a few of our boys were playing for the club at the time. Since then a number of mates from UoG have gone through the club and it still has great links today through the work of Downsey and Smithy over the years.
After my time at UoG had come to end I’ve been lucky enough to represent England in both 7’s and XV’s at World Cups and other international competitions along the way. I’ve also represented Team GB at the Olympics in Rio 2016 where we came away with a silver medal and for the past three years I’ve been plying my trade with Bath Rugby.
I’ve always enjoyed coaching every now and then but have never had the time to fully focus on attaching myself to a club due to playing and external commitments. Since I’ve moved back to Cheltenham, I’ve had a few chats with Downsey and now really want to take my coaching to the next level. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in at the club and trying to pass on anything/everything I’ve learned over the years where can, that may help the players individually and collectively as a team.
