Last summer, thanks to our shirt sponsors, our Junior squads were chuffed to bits to be getting new kit.
As we collected up over 250 of the old shirts, we realised that the great quality of the kit meant that most of the shirts were still in really good condition, and the last thing we wanted was for them to go to waste.
So, we decided to deliver them to local charity, the Footprints Foundation.
The Footprints Foundation is an amazing charity which aims to tackle the problems and issues faced by disadvantaged and vulnerable people. Among many other amazing things, they distribute unwanted soccer and rugby kit to over 15 countries throughout Africa.
The ongoing travel restrictions meant it took a lot longer than hoped, but fast forward almost 18 months, and we are thrilled that the Footprints Foundation have eventually been able to get our Old Pats shirts to disadvantaged children in Zanzibar.
Our shirt sponsors – Dair, First Solution, Mack Residential, Arnica Dental, Vets On The Park and Mitie were absolutely delighted. Not only had they enabled the club to fund the kit in the first place, but who knew they would also be helping to clothe children in orphanages in Africa too!
Alistair Armstrong, Old Pats RFC Junior Chair said: “We are over the moon that our playing shirts have arrived in Zanzibar, and to see the children wearing them with pride is amazing! Old Pats has its roots in community, and we’re so proud to be able to spread that community-feel a little wider than usual. This won’t be the last time we do it – as and when we need to change kit in the future, we’ll be making sure more shirts head off to help disadvantaged children in Africa.”
