Excellent defense and fierce tackling by both sides

Sunday 17th October saw the U11s take on local rivals Cheltenham Tigers at home in 2 excellently supported and competitive matches.

Old Pats had to amalgamate our 3 squads into 2 due to the difference in numbers with Tigers. The squads used were the Barbarians and Vikings with the Spartan players shared across the two.

In the first match the Barbarians took it to the Tigers in a low scoring affair mainly due to some excellent defense and fierce tackling by both sides. The early parts of the game were physical with Old Pats showing excellent one on one rucking skills, driving their opponents back at many of the breakdowns. Tigers had some strong runners but were unable to break the Old Pats down in the 1st half which Pats edged overall.

The second half Tigers were able to break the Old Pats defensive line on occasions with some strong running and clever passes but Pats held firm and and continued to press for tries. The 2nd half finished very evenly with both teams contributing to a fantastic match.

The second match saw the Vikings take Tigers on. In the early parts the Tigers caught Old Pats cold due to the Tigers squad already having a match under their belt. The Old Pats however warmed to the task and as the match progressed and began to play with freedom and use their strong runners.

Tigers were a little stronger at the ruck physically, particularly in the first half and this led to Tigers having the better of the match overall. Old Pats however created tries during the match which showed great determination and demonstrated how much they have taken in from their training sessions.

Thank you to Tigers for joining us for the matches. We look forward to the return fixture later in the season.

Thank you also to all the parents who came to support and to Paul Waterson for the hotdogs he provided for all the players. We move onto training after the half term break.
