Match Report

Old Pats U12 Lions vs Cheltenham Tigers 12-11-23

The wonderful game of rugby delivered again!

U12 Lions

U12 Tigers

Cheltenham Tigers

In the wild, Lions and Tigers are rarely seen together, but it is widely known the two have sincere respect for one another, just like the Old Pats Lions and the Cheltenham Tigers.

The weather, traditional rugby weather, rainy and cold, perfect.

Hearts beating, eyes fixed, the Lions were ready, no nerves, the Pride were standing proud.

A Lions roar can be heard up to 8km away, so everyone in Winchcombe knew the game had now started!

The game of rugby brings out the very best traits of its players. Discipline, competition, empathy, respect and teamwork, all of which were demonstrated by all the Lions.

It’s fair to say that every player in the team has bought into the Old Pats ethos of Quickfast. This was demonstrated in abundance.

The running lines from the Lions were exemplary, just like they’ve been practicing, with the type of precision Gillette could only dream of. Not just the players in the backs though, everyone!

The game saw Cheltenham Tigers make incredible yards through direct running and pushing the ball out to the wings with quick and accurate passing.

Great rivalries are built on respect, Cheltenham Tigers have that from the Old Pats. The display of commitment, drive and spirit by the players is a testament to their coaches and the entire club. Perfect!

Something we all need to take from todays games is that rugby in Cheltenham is thriving. The future of this wonderful game will be represented by players across Cheltenham and Gloucestershire at all levels. The foundations that coaches from Cheltenham Tigers and the Old Pats have developed are strong. As strong as a Lion and a Tiger you might say!

Huge thank you to everyone that played, coached, supplied cakes, hot drinks, post match food and of course the amazing support for all players.
