We have a big day planned bringing together the family and many friends of David “Taff” Powell to celebrate and remember the amazing man he was and the positive impact he had on everyone he came in contact with. Sadly he passed away during lockdown and this is the belated opportunity to come together and remember him in the way he would have wanted!

The Old Pats is a family and for many years Taff was certainly one of the principle characters. Having played for decades in the front-row he went on to play an active part off the field including as Club President. He was always happy to chat, add words of wisdom, share a story or sage advice with a twinkle in his eye and occasionally a cider in his hand! His speech at Twickenham following the 2001 victory in the Intermediate Cup Final was legendary and his full participation, in every way, on tour in Texas was mentioned in hushed tones as clearly what goes on tour stays on tour!!

Everyone is invited to come and celebrate with his family on Saturday 19th February 2022. We are sure there will be people he played with at Old Pats, colleagues from Bournside, pupils he taught, friends from across Cheltenham and potentially the world, the more the merrier!

The day will start with an Old Pats Legends rugby game: Bournside v Rest of the World kicking off at 11.30am. The game will feature more legendary players who have featured in the magenta, blue and white than we can mention here although maybe they won’t be running as quickly as they once did.

Following the Legends Game the 1st team will be running out against Thornbury RFC with kick-off at 2pm with the Legends nursing their bruises and a pint!

The celebrations will continue after the 1st team game with food, drinks and memories being shared in the club house into the small hours.

The family would love to see anyone that knew Taff and share stories to celebrate the man and the impact he had on everyone he met! The fun starts at 11.30am and we look forward to seeing you there.
