Match Report
U12 Spartans v Stroud RFC and Minchinhampton RFC
Every player for Spartans played their part today, they’ve obviously been listening during training!
1st game vs Minchinhampton
A difficult first half for the Spartans. Minchinhampton were clearly more up for it from the off and a few missed tackles and dropped passes from the boys meant we went into the break 2 – 1 down.
Clearly some wise words from Jonesy and the other coaches during the half time team talk spurred the boys on as almost everything the Spartans did in the second half was spot on. Some great tackling, rucking, passing, and running meant they turned the game around, finally winning by 4 tries to 3.
2nd game vs Stroud
The second game for the Spartans was against Stroud and this was almost a carbon copy of the first game. 2 – 1 down at half time, following a lacklustre start. But once again…. never did the heads drop, always encouraging each other, and the things they tried in the 1st half that didn’t quite work just seemed to work in the 2nd half. Great spirit!!
3rd game vs the Barbarians (a mixture of Minchinhampton, Stroud and Old Pats players)
The Spartans third and final game was against the ‘Barbarians’ (a mixture of Old Pats, Stroud and Minchinhampton players) Early on in the first half some excellent play out on the wing ended with Ben jinking past 2 or 3 players to score 2 tries. There was then a clear try scored by Otto, but the ref (Jonesy!) must have been watching the other games at that point. Luckily the boys played to the whistle and Josh ended up running in a try at the other side of the pitch, after some great passing from the boys!
The first half finished with the Pats 3 – 0 up. However, in the second half the hastily formed ‘Barbarians’ team upped the tempo and played a blinder. One of the Minchinhampton players, who was lightning fast scored 3 tries to level the match, the last of which was scored with just a few minutes left before the final whistle. What a comeback!
