Match Report
Hard fought games and a tough test for the Greens back at the Park
Logistics proved as much of a challenge for the coaches this week as having experienced every type of bad weather over the last few weeks, waterlogged pitches meant this fixture had to be switched from Longlevens late in the day. Thankfully The Park was playable and there was a big turnout from players and spectators alike making for a great atmosphere.
3 fixtures were on the menu this morning, the first being an impromtu training match between Greens players and members of the Gloucester Old Boys which proved a good start to get everyone some game time and warmed up on another cold, but thankfully dry, morning.
Gloucester made up two teams with one team of Longlevens including Gloucester Old Boys providing the first opposition and real action of the day. The match was entertaining and very competitive, and with two different styles of Rugby on display. The Gloucester side showed strength and power while Old Pats were more disciplined and agile.
Gloucester took the lead after sustained pressure early on to score in the corner, however Greens hit back soon after with the highlight of the morning, an outstanding solo run from one side of the pitch to the other, evading most of the opposition along the way. Greens then had sustained pressure in the
Gloucester half and were unlucky not to take the lead, better decision making and quicker offloading in the rucks could have paid off. Ultimately the Gloucester side ran out narrow winners with another good score in the corner after a smooth passing move along the line late on. There wasn’t much in this one though and Greens could have easily taken something from the game.
The second match against an all Longlevens team proved a tougher test, with the Gloucester side full of running with good handling. Greens acquitted themselves well but under the pressure more tackles were missed and the 4 tries from Longlevens came in similar fashion, with a man or two over to run in the score. What was really pleasing was that Greens kept the heads up and going until the end and enjoyed their Rugby. With this attitude they will continue to learn and improve and although there are obviously some areas to work on the coaches and team are more than up to the task and will come back stronger.
Thanks as ever to all the management, coaches and support which made for a great morning of Rugby today. Last but definitely not least the catering for the hot sausage rolls which were fabulous. Onto the next one Greens!
